From March 17 to 18, the Department of Archives and Government Information Studies of our School organized students and teachers to go to Beijing to carry out professional cognitive practice activity.
The activity was led by Yujue Wang, Professor at the Department of Archives and Government Information Studies of our School, Xiaoliu Bai, Director of the Undergraduate Teaching Management Office, and Xiaoyu Chen, Secretary of CYLC SIM Committee, and 39 undergraduates of 2020-grade majoring in Archival Science participated.

On the morning of March 17, students and teachers went to the First Historical Archives of China for visiting and discussion meeting. The heads of the First Historical Archives of China and the representatives of students and teachers of the School exchanged views on topics such as The current situation of digital utilization of historical archives and cooperation in scientific research projects and The construction of students' practice base. Both sides expressed the hope to further strengthen the cooperation between archives and school, and make concerted efforts in the training of archives management professionals to form a good demonstration. The students visited many thematic exhibitions, such as Archives and Literature Exhibition of One Hundred Years is in Full Bloom, Historical Archives Exhibition of Ming and Qing Dynasties, Archives Fittings Exhibition of Ming and Qing Dynasties, Exhibition on the Development of Archives in Ming and Qing Dynasties. The students further understood the memory power behind the archives via various thematic exhibitions. In the afternoon, the students and teachers went to visit Huangshicheng, which is the most complete ancient royal archives in China. With the guidance of the commentator, they learned about the architectural structure, the furnishings in the hall, the contents of the archives and the magnificent history behind them.

On March 18, students went to Tiananmen Square to watch the flag-raising ceremony. In the passionate melody of March of the Volunteers, everyone watched the five-star red flag rising with respect, and received patriotic education in the most solemn flag-raising ceremony.
Later, the students went to the National Museum of Classic Books to visit and study. On the occasion of the Exhibition of Four Discoveries of Ancient Literature in China in the Early 20th Century, the students wandered in the four thematic exhibitions of Inscriptions on Bones or Tortoise Shells of the Shang Dynasty (16th-11th BC) in Yin ruins, Juyan Bamboo Slips in the Han Dynasty, Dunhuang Documents, and Ming and Qing Archives, stopped for a long time, studied carefully, traced back to the history of China through precious cultural relics, explored the Chinese culture, and appreciated the immersive visiting fully.
In the Simulated Divination Area in the exhibition hall of Inscriptions on Bones or Tortoise Shells of the Shang Dynasty (16th-11th BC) in Yin ruins, and the multimedia interactive area in the exhibition hall of Juyan Bamboo Slips in the Han Dynasty, the students put on VR equipment and embarked on the journey of "searching for ancient books". Through the on-site visit and experience in the National Museum of Classic Books, the students had a deeper understanding and thinking about "promoting the creative transformation and innovative development of Chinese excellent traditional culture and giving full play to the unique role of cultural relics and ancient books in inheriting and carrying forward Chinese excellent traditional culture".

On the afternoon of March 18, students from the Department of Information Management in Peking University and the SIM students gathered in Peking University. They visited the History Museum of Peking University, and visited the Peking University campus. They shared their experience of college life and exchanged their youth experiences.

In this professional cognitive practice activity, the students deepened their understanding of archival major and industry, and also felt the huge literature heritage and magnificent history and culture of the Chinese nation, further strengthened their confidence in profession and culture, and had more in-depth thinking about their future study, career planning and ideal of serving the country.
