From April 15 to 16, the 2020-grade undergraduates of Library Science of our School went to Changsha for a two-day professional cognitive practice activity. 54 undergraduates participated in the activity, Ying Huang, CPC Secretary of the Department of Library Science Branch, Siluo Yang, Deputy Director of the Department of Library Science, and Gang Wu, Deputy Director of the Department of Library Science, led the team.

On the morning of April 15, students went to the first stop of the activity--Changsha Government Affairs Cloud Innovation Center. At present, the professional knowledge of Library Science has not been confined to the library any longer, and the processing and utilization of data has been paid more and more attention by librarians. Changsha Government Affairs Cloud Innovation Center has revealed a major direction for the future application of professional knowledge to students. During the visit, Shengxia Zhu, Deputy Director of Basic Resources Department of Changsha Big Data Center, exchanged views with teachers and students on issues related to data collection and utilization. The students further clarified the future professional knowledge application and career planning via the communication.

The National University of Defense Technology Library was the second stop of this activity. During the visit, the students reviewed the development of the Library following the footsteps of Curator Yanping He. The most impressive thing was that several generations of librarians of the National University of Defense Technology Library have made great contributions to improving the teaching and scientific research level of the National University of Defense Technology, from the north China to Hunan, endured great hardships in starting up a new university, and was determined to strengthen the army. This is an example for teachers and students to learn, and it is also the eternal pursuit and direction for librarians.

Later, the teachers and students went to Yuelu Academy. The humanistic atmosphere of Yuelu Academy is particularly strong. In the vivid explanation given by Wei Li, a teacher of the Academy, the students got a close look at the millennium Academy, and the ancient books and inscriptions in the Academy were especially concerned by teachers and students. Only by understanding history can we move towards the future.

On the morning of April 16, Jun Zhang, Deputy Director of Changsha Library, led the teachers and students to stroll through the books and think about the future development of public library. The high-level reader service of Changsha Library has made students realize that one of the core tasks of the library, as a platform for dialogue between books and readers, is to let the information recorded in books enter the readers' world in various forms, so as to satisfy readers' needs and leave a good impression on readers' mind. The visit in Changsha Library also made the professional concept of "human-oriented" break away from characters and enter teachers and students’ mind.

After leaving Changsha Library, teachers and students went to Hunan Museum to experience the long-standing Huxiang culture. From library to museum, students realized that as a public cultural space, libraries, museums and other institutions reach the same goal by different ways, and the library, because of its unique inclusiveness and creativity, will certainly play a leading role in contemporary public cultural institutions, bearing the urban culture context and showing the style of "intelligence and service" of the library.

Respond to classroom knowledge with practice, and measure youth mission with steps. On the land of Hunan, the undergraduate students major in Library Science of Grade 2020 conducted a substantial and wonderful professional cognitive practice. We believe that all students can understand in practice, settle down in thinking, keep close to the pulse of the times, and further demonstrate the responsibility of librarians in their study and work.
