2022 Department Directors’ Forum

FromNovember 19 to 20, the School heldDepartment Directors’ Forumfor freshmen and their parents, inviting department directors, deputy directors, and teachers to explain their major’s characteristics, share their discipline’s advantages, and describe the employment prospects.

Congjing Ran, Director of Library Science Department of the SIM, Wuhan University, showed the students and parents the profound humanisticcultureand broad employment prospects of Library Science from the aspects of education system, discipline positioning advantages, curriculum features, academic achievements, practical education methods, and the employment direction of department alumni. In addition, the interesting award-winning answer session deepened students' knowledge of Library Science.

Yiming Zhao, Deputy Director of the Department of Information Management Science, presented the strong faculty, outstanding alumni deeds, excellent proportion of entering higher level education and diverse employment directions of the major of Information Management and Information System, and also introduced the correspondence between the major of Information Management and Information System and the national strategy of digital China. Finally,Yiming Zhaoexplained the innovation of the education program of the major of Information Management and Information System, telling the students that "as long as you work hard, the major of Information Management and Information System will live up to your efforts".

Ping Wang, Director of the Department of Archives and Government Information Studies, talked from the long history of Archival Science, introduced the outstanding contribution of Archival Science in international exchange and the unique social responsibility of the discipline. While presenting the characteristics and advantages of Archival Science in our School,Ping Wangsaid that all teachers in the department will always attach importance to teaching and create the best study environment for students.

"What are the two most important criteria for choosing a major?"Jie Xu, Director of the Department of Publishing Science put forward such a question to the students. After listening to the students' answers from different views,Jie Xuexplained carefully the relevant information of the major of Editing and Publishing (Digital Publishing). From the aspects of curriculum of publishing, education mechanism and social practice system, she introduced them one by one and answered questions from the students.

Weiwei Yan, Deputy Director of the Department of Electronic Commerce, emphasized the absolute importance of e-commerce in the Internet age, and then presented the e-commerce major to students and parents in an all-round way from the faculty, scientific research achievements, and the status of further studies. He said that e-commerce is not equal to shopping online. It is booming in the Internet age and has a promising future.

Shengli Deng, Director of the Department of Big Data Security and Secrecy, introduced the wide application of big data in social life, then combined with the characteristics of big data management and application major, introduced the modular curriculum and big data thinking in different fields, and finally explained the broad employment prospects of this major through relevant data. In addition,Liang Hong, Deputy Director of the Department of Big Data Security and Secrecy, introduced the history of this major, the basic requirements of the society for big data talents and the research paradigm of social science driven by big data.

In the 2022 Department Directors’ Forum, the wonderful and sincere preaching of teachers from all departments made students and parents understand the discipline system of the School in an all-round way, and also made students' knowledge stand at the forefront of society. After the activity, students and parents expressed their deep and clear understanding of the curriculum system and development direction of each major.
