Recently, the academic book Social Vulnerability to COVID-19: Impacts of Technology Adoption and Information Behavior edited by Dan Wu, Professor at our School, was published by Springer Cham Publishing House. This book belongs to the famous series Synthesis Lectures on Information Concepts, Retrieval, and Services in the field of information science. This series has focused on research topics such as information science and the application of information technology for a long time. It is an important academic research camp in the field of information science and has a high international reputation.

The book has eight chapters, which discussed the behaviors and conditions of users in different regions of the world, especially in different socially vulnerable populations, including children, the elderly, COVID-19 patients and marginalized people, in using, acquiring and adopting information communication technology (ICT) during the COVID-19 pandemic. The information gap faced by socially vulnerable populations and the influence of different information technologies on the development of vulnerable groups are deeply studied. The publication of this book is of great reference value to the research in the fields of information storage and retrieval, data mining and knowledge discovery, and further promotes the research in the fields of information retrieval technology, information search behavior and human-computer interaction.
The book is also an important achievement of international academic research cooperation. The co-editors include Xiaojun Yuan, Associate Professor in the College of Emergency Preparedness, Homeland Security, and Cybersecurity at the University at Albany, State University of New York, and DeeDee Bennett Gayle, Associate Professor in the College of Emergency Preparedness, Homeland Security, and Cybersecurity at the University at Albany, State University of New York. Dan Wu and Le Ma, a doctoral student of our School, finished the fourth chapter Mining the Health Information Needs of COVID-19 Patients Based on Social Q&A Community and the eighth chapter Conclusion. Shaobo Liang, a teacher in our School, finished the sixth chapter Digital Divide Faced by the Elderly Under the Covid-19 Pandemic.
Dan Wu, Professor in the School of Information Management at Wuhan University, Member of the Academic Committee of Wuhan University, and Director of the Human–Computer Interaction and User Behavior Research Center. Her research areas include information organization and retrieval, user information behavior, human–computer interaction, and digital libraries. Her work is published in various journals (including the IP&M, JASIST, etc.). She has presented at several conferences related to information behavior, information retrieval, and digital library (SIGIR, CIKM, CSCW, CHIIR, etc.). Dr. Wu received her Ph.D. from the Peking University in Management. She serves as Editor-in-Chief of Aslib Journal of Information Management and Executive Editor of Data and Information Management. She also serves as a director at large of the ASIS&T. She is a member of the ACM Digital Library Committee, a member of the iSchool Data Science Curriculum Committee, and a member of the JCDL Steering Committee. Previously, she published the monograph Mobile Search Behaviors: An In-depth Analysis based on Contexts, APPs and Devices in Morgan & Claypool Publishers, and published the monograph Cross-device Web Search in Routledge Publishing House.
