On March 18, the Symposium on the Development Strategy of the Discipline of Information Resources Management was held in Wuhan University. It was hosted by the Information Resources Management Discipline Review Group of Academic Degrees Committee of the State Council.

In her opening speech, Xuemei Zhao pointed out that the Academic Degrees Committee of the State Council and the Ministry of Education renamed the original first-level discipline Library, Information, and Archives Management as Information Resources Management, which was a timely measure for this discipline to cope with the revolutionary trend of new information technology. In the digital age, information resources, like petroleum in the industrial age, play an irreplaceable role in the national economy and social development. The construction of digital China, network power and data management have been incorporated into the overall national strategy, and the general layout has been planned. It is of great practical and long-term significance to explore the development strategy of information resources management discipline.

Experts and scholars attending the meeting conducted in-depth discussions on the strategic issues of the development of information resources management discipline. Feicheng Ma, Huiling Feng and Chuanfu Chen made keynote speeches respectively. They reviewed the century-long development of the discipline of information resources management, and discussed how to serve the needs of the country, grasp the development opportunities, and set the direction of discipline construction in the new era. In the communication session, experts and scholars had a full exchange and discussion on topics such as the orientation of the discipline, the development direction and trend, the construction of independent knowledge system, the construction of second-level disciplines, the construction of undergraduate majors, the construction of teaching and educational resources, the construction of teaching staff and platforms.

In the conclusion of the meeting, Chuanfu Chen pointed out that a new round of scientific and technological revolution and industrial transformation is shaping global economy and society. As a new production factor, data is the basis of digitalization, networking and intelligence. Information resources and intelligent technology are affecting talent education, scientific research and industrial development profoundly. The discipline of information resources management should always face the major strategic needs of the country, adhere to the principle of integrity and innovation, take moral education as the fundamental task, strengthen the construction of talent education ability, and promote the coordinated development of discipline.
