On May 10, the Feasibility Seminar on Authorization Site of Doctoral Degree Majors in Publishing was held in a combination of reality and virtual meeting.

Xiaoguang Wang, Associate Dean of our School, presided over the opening ceremony and the closing ceremony of the Feasibility Seminar, and Haiping Yang, as leader of the expert group, presided over the Feasibility Seminar.

In his opening speech, Wei Lu said that the School attached great importance to the construction of the subject of publishing, coordinated relevant forces to promote the application and feasibility demonstration of doctoral authorization site in publishing actively, and hoped that experts from academic community, industry and government organization would provide more guidance and suggestions during the application and feasibility demonstration of doctoral authorization site in publishing.

Jie Xu, Professor and Director of the Department of Publishing Science of our School, made a comprehensive report on the feasibility demonstration report of publishing doctoral degree authorization site from four aspects: necessity and feasibility, construction objectives and research direction, teaching staff and subject characteristics, and training program.

Anlun Wan pointed out that it has been the publisher's goal to set up an authorization site for doctoral degree in publishing, and we should pay attention to the construction of teaching materials for related courses.

Jiuzhen Zhang believed that the application and the feasibility demonstration of the authorization site of Wuhan University's doctoral degree in publishing would play a good demonstration role for related universities and look forward to the follow-up progress.

Qili Lei proposed that in formulating the training program, there should be requirements in internship and practice in addition to requirements in articles and thesis. The training program should be forward-looking, conform to the development trend of publishing industry, and reflect the difference from academic degree training.

Ran Ao said that the subject of Wuhan University’s publishing has obvious advantages, and it is necessary to pay attention to the development of emerging and interdisciplinary subjects such as artificial intelligence in the overall curriculum of publishing doctoral students, embrace new opportunities and meet new challenges actively.

Guobin Huang analyzed the current situation of doctoral talent training and industry demand in publishing, and thought that the training of senior publishing talents is an important factor for a publishing power. He expected that our School would success in applying for the authorization site of doctoral degree in publishing, strengthen cooperation between university and enterprises, and jointly cultivate high-level talents leading the publishing industry.

At the closing ceremony, the expert group read out the comments on appraisal. The opinion was that authorization site of doctoral degree majors in publishing which was to be applied has reached the setting requirements, and it was suggested to set up the authorization site of doctoral degree majors in publishing according to relevant regulations and procedures, deepen the interdisciplinary integration continuously, further promote the collaboration with publishing resources in the industry, and further improve the doctoral training mode.
